Under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, Medicare and Medicaid practitioners are eligible for incentive programs to implement EHR software. These incentives allow qualified Medicare practitioners to receive up to $44,000 in incentive payments over a course of 5 years, while qualified Medicaid practitioners are eligible to receive up to $63,750 over a 6 year period.
In order to qualify for the incentives, a physician, or Eligible Professional (EP), must demonstrate “Meaningful Use” of a certified EHR technology. To meet Meaningful Use requirements include adopting and implementing the use of a certified EHR technology, and/or upgrading to a certified technology or adding new functionality to meet certification requirements. Keep track of your practice's Meaningful Use progress with MedicBits' Meaningful Use Report.
